STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM is important because it can be seen in every part of our lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes to our home. Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and could one day persue a profession in a STEM related industry.
At Langford, we include STEM in all topics - each Term. However, three times a year, we host a whole school STEM week. During this week, we allow children to partake in a wide range of challenges to complete, problems to solve and concepts to develop. In the past we have a variety of themes, from Recycled Fashion to building homes to survive a hurricane. All have been highly successful and very fun!
