Intent
Our Art and Design Curriculum encourages children to explore and experiment with different media, texture and materials to develop creativity in their own artwork, whilst appreciating the work of others. Children are empowered to think creatively and critically. This curriculum stimulates imagination and confidence, involving children in a range of visual, tactile and sensory experiences, which enable them to communicate what they see, think and feel through the use of the elements of colour, texture, form and pattern. Art and Design promotes careful observation and an appreciation of the world around us. Children will explore ideas and meanings through studying the work of artists and designers. Art and Design at Langford Village provides our children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thought and ideas.
Implementation
The teaching and implementation of the Art and Design Curriculum at Langford Village Community Primary School is based on focused topics. Our Art and Design curriculum is high quality, in which children will learn to understand and apply the key principles of art: line, tone, texture, shape, form, space, pattern, colour, contrast, composition, proportion and perspective. A detailed progression of skills for each area of the Art and Design curriculum outlines specific skills for each year group and will support those children who require additional teaching or extension to develop skills further. Children are also given the opportunities to experience and appreciate the work of artists and designers from around the world and from different periods of time. Through the work of significant artists, they can further develop and apply skills taught.
Impact
The impact of our curriculum is measured in terms of the extent to which pupils have developed new knowledge, understanding and skills and that they can use and recall this with fluency. The children's art work is often cross- curricular and helps them to express their emotions in art, as well as show their knowledge and understanding in History, Geography and Science. The impact of Art and Design is measured through:
