We are Flamingos Class

Miss O'Neill is the Foundation Stage Leader and Flamingos class teacher. Julia is a Key Person and supports us with our learning. 

What I need

Please ensure your child has the following items in school each day.

Drinks bottle (with water only)

Book bag (with red reading diary and book)

Bag with spare clothes, including underwear, on your child's peg in case they need to change for any reason

Coat

Hat (sun hat March-Oct / woolly hat Oct-March)

Wellies

Waterproof trousers

Lunchbox (if you haven't ordered your child a hot lunch)

Reading

Your child will bring home a 'library book' from our class library to share with you, please share this book together looking at the words and pictures, this will help build your child's reading comprehension. Language comprehension (necessary for both reading and writing) starts from birth. It only develops when adults talk with children about the world around them and the books (stories and non-fiction) they read with them, and enjoy rhymes, poems and songs together.

As your child's phonological awareness develops we will start sending home a book with decodable words in it for your child to practice their phonics. This skilled word reading, taught later, involves both the speedy working out of the pronunciation of unfamiliar printed words (decoding) and the speedy recognition of familiar printed words (tricky and high frequency words).

Reading daily with your child will help to further their reading development. Please keep your child's reading book in their book bag each day and comment on their reading diary on Tapestry each time you read. 

 

In the Moment Planning and Focus Children

Each day in the Foundation Stage we are unsure of where the day will go, or exactly what learning will happen resulting in a sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the day from children and the adults. Children’s interests are very much ‘in the moment’ and this is why our teaching is reactive and spontaneous in that moment!

Star Moments

We would like you to fill in a star and send it into school with your child for something they have done at home. We share the ‘Star Moments’ with the class and all say ‘You are a star!’ together. Please print and cut the star off of the document below, make your own star and send it to school with your little star, or add a 'Star Moment' to Tapestry so we can share it together in class.

Forest School                

Our woodland area is based on the school site and provides a wonderful outdoor learning experience. It is essential that your child is adequately dressed in order for them to fully enjoy this experience. On a Wednesday please bring your child to school in their woodlands clothes (clothing that you do not mind if it gets muddy, snagged on branches etc. and school shoes (they will put their wellies and waterproofs on before leaving the classroom).

 

As the children are coming to school in their Forest School clothes and will be staying in it all day, please ensure clothing is appropriate and comfortable and that all items are labelled with their name. All children should also have a bag with a full set of spare clothes that is kept in the cloakroom should they have a toileting accident or get wet/dirty whilst playing.  

Each Wednesday (unless told otherwise) children will need to arrive at school in the following clothing:

  • A long-sleeved top (this is essential, even if the weather is hot, it will help to protect them against scratches, stings, prickles and ticks)
  • Long trousers (leggings or jogging bottoms)
  • Warm jumper/fleece
  • School shoes/trainers
  • Warm and waterproof coat

Please ensure they also have with them (on the day or previously brought into school):

  • Waterproof trousers
  • Wellies or outdoor walking boots (or snow boots if it is cold)
  • Gloves, hat, and warm woolly / fluffy socks (when it is really cold)
