R.E. at Langford Village Community Primary School

Intent

Our R.E Curriculum encourages respect and empathy for different faiths and cultures; showing tolerance and understanding, though views may differ from their own.

Implementation

Concepts, knowledge and understanding are taught in RE lessons and through theme days with enrichment opportunities to enhance pupils leaning. RE will also be covered cross curricular through other subject areas where appropriate. The school follows the Oxford Diocease Board of Education syllabus which is structured around strands of learning (believing, expressing and living). This enables pupils to connect their learning to these three strands and also see links between them. We have organised the units to help pupils to build knowledge and understanding progressively and also re-cap on previous learning. Different religions are taught in each year group along with different aspects of Christianity. This affords the opportunity to compare different aspects of world religions.

Learning focusses mainly on two religions in depth in KS1. In Key Stage 2, learning progresses to start to explore diversity in religious and nonreligious world views in more detail and also be able to consider their own beliefs.

Impact

The impact of our curriculum is measured in terms of the extent to which pupils have developed new knowledge, understanding and skills and that they can use and recall this with fluency.

The impact of RE will be measured by:

  • Regular knowledge-check activities and teacher assessment during lessons
  • In school attainment tracking
  • Engagement in enrichment activities
  • Subject Leader monitoring – Lesson visits, scrutiny of books, assessment, pupil interviews and questionnaires
  • Governor monitoring
