Safeguarding

Langford Village Community Primary School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all children in school. All Oxfordshire schools, including Langford Village Community Primary School, follow the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures. The school will, normally, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Children’s Services and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.

Safeguarding - A Definition

The definition used in the Children Act 2004, and in Working together to safeguard children 2018 can be summarised as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children's health or development
  • ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities we follow the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board (OSCB) Procedures. Further information about the OSCB can be found https://www.oscb.org.uk/

Are you concerned about a child?

Acting quickly can make all the difference.

If you think a child might be suffering neglect or abuse, it can be difficult to know what to do. But your action is vital in making sure that child gets the help they need.

To contact the school, call 01869369021 and ask to speak with our Designated Safeguarding Lead (Sarah Tomlin) or our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Ruth Nixon) or another DSL listed above.

Where there are significant immediate concerns about the safety of a child, you should contact the Police on 999/101 or MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) 0345 050 7666.

Further safeguarding information can be found on the OSCB (Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board) https://www.oscb.org.uk/
